Automated External Defibrillators for the Home
As we near the end of #HeartMonth we would like to bring it to your attention how important it is to consider an Automated External Defibrillator in the home.
As mentioned in our previous blogs this month, Sudden Cardiac Arrest or Heart Attack is a frightening reality and is in increased risk for those facing Heart Disease. SCA and Heart Attack can occur at any age, at any time. Many people with an increased risk of these traumatizing accidents consider an AED for the home.
First Aid Canada is pleased to carry the Philips HeartStart Home Defibrillator, especially designed and packed for the home. The benefits of the Philips HeartStart Home Defibrillator are wide ranging. This device specifically is designed for the ordinary person in the extraordinary moment and is known to be the easiest AED to set up and use and the most reliable defibrillator available. Simply pull up the handle on the front of the AED to activate it. Once the AED is activated it provides on-demand audio coaching in a calm, clear voice. The voiced instructions are tailored to the responder’s actions providing AED and CPR guidance during the resuscitation of a sudden cardiac arrest victim. Along with the audio guidance there are also graphics-based visuals designed to instantly communicate instructions with minimum reading and interpretation, thus users not fluent in the device’s language can easily follow instructions.
The device educates the user on how to place the SMART Pads on the victim. The pads are “smart” because they can sense things such as when they have been removed from the cartridge and applied to the patient. This helps the unit be aware of the point at which the user is in the response process. Once the device is ready to shock it intuitively delivers a shock about 8 seconds after the end of CPR interval. The SMART Pads also use SMART Biphasic Therapy, a waveform formulation using a unique combination of high current – to maximize effectiveness, and a lower energy dose to minimize side effects that are harmful to a fragile heart.
May you never have to use the Philips HeartStart Home Defibrillator, but just to be sure the device is always prepared there are built-in self tests. The device automatically runs daily self-tests to check the internal circuitry, waveform delivery system, pads cartridge, and battery capacity. Homeowners will be able to easily identify their AED is working correctly as the blinking green “Ready” light indicates the Onsite AED has passed its daily self test and is ready for use.
For the month of February, First Aid Canada is pleased to offer $100 off the Philips HeartStart Home Defibrillator Package. If you have any questions please do not hesitate to contact the First Aid Canada Team at 1-855-322-4243.
