<\/strong><\/h1>\n20 Safety Tips for the Holiday Season<\/strong><\/h1>\n<\/p>\nBecause the holiday season can be quite busy the First Aid Canada team thought it would be a great idea to give you a quick list of 20 safety tips to keep in mind this holiday season:<\/p>\n
\n- Keep decorations away from fire hazards such as heaters and wood stoves.<\/li>\n
- Decorate your tree with children and pets in mind – keep smaller, breakable items at the top of the tree.<\/li>\n
- Remember to turn off lights when leaving the home.<\/li>\n
- Have a fully stocked First Aid Kit<\/a> in the home.<\/li>\n
- Consider an AED<\/a> for the home. Check out our blog to learn more, here<\/a>.<\/li>\n
- Never leave cooking food unattended on the stove.<\/li>\n
- Shovel the snow from your walkway and driveway as soon as it arrives.<\/li>\n
- Salt your walkway and driveway to avoid slippery situations.<\/li>\n
- Be sure you do not have any signs or symptoms of Cardiac Arrest before shovelling snow<\/a>.<\/li>\n
- Bundle up and wear appropriate footwear to avoid Frostbite & Hypothermia<\/a>.<\/li>\n
- Keep wet clothing away from the heaters to avoid potential fire hazards.<\/li>\n
- Always hike, ski, snowboard or snowshoe with buddy.<\/li>\n
- Be sure to take proper precautions before skating on frozen bodies of water.<\/li>\n
- Never connect more than three strands of lights as this can cause a fuse to blow and\/or a fire.<\/li>\n
- If you have a tree be sure to water it daily as a dry tree can become hazardous.<\/li>\n
- Check all of your decorations for a certification label dictating quality and safety.<\/li>\n
- Keep conscious of all candles lit in the home and be sure to extinguish them before bed.<\/li>\n
- Do not overload electrical outlets.<\/li>\n
- Expect the unexpected on the road<\/a> as icy conditions can be very dangerous.<\/li>\n
- Be sure to equip your vehicle with a Vehicle Distress Kit<\/a>.<\/li>\n<\/ul>\n
