<\/strong><\/h2>\n<\/p>\nFirst Aid for Knocked-Out Tooth<\/strong><\/h2>\n<\/p>\nNo one wants to think about the possibility of having a tooth knocked out or picture it. However, with all things in life it is important to be educated when you feel this could be a danger, for example if you are a hockey player, cyclist or work in an environment where this could be a future risk.<\/p>\n
Step 1: Collect Teeth and\/or Fragments<\/strong><\/p>\n\n- Collect fragments<\/li>\n
- Only touch the crown (top part of the tooth), be sure to not touch the root<\/li>\n
- Rinse tooth gently if necessary<\/li>\n<\/ul>\n
Step 2: Re-Insert or Store Teeth<\/strong><\/p>\n\n- Rinse tooth with warm water<\/li>\n
- If possible reinsert tooth in correct socket and bite down on gauze<\/li>\n
- If teeth cannot be reinserted store in whole milk or between cheek and gum (this prevents the tooth from drying out<\/li>\n<\/ul>\n
Step 3: Treat Injury<\/strong><\/p>\n\n- Use sterile gauze or cloth to control bleeding<\/li>\n
- Apply a cool compress to reduce pain and swelling<\/li>\n
- If necessary, take ibuprofen or acetaminophen for pain relief<\/li>\n<\/ul>\n
Step 4: Seek Help<\/strong><\/p>\n\n- If you were able to reinsert teeth successfully see a dentist immediately<\/li>\n
- If the teeth were unable to be reinserted go to an emergency room<\/li>\n
- For all chipped or broken teeth see a dentist<\/li>\n<\/ul>\n
