Lacrosse is a relatively safe team sport, however it is important to be prepared. Because lacrosse is a sport played with frequent back-to-back games it is important to know how to prevent injuries as well as treat accidents when/of they occur. Here are a few quick tips to keep in mind: 

 

Injury Prevention 

Proper Nutrition

Proper nutrition is crucial for athletes. Ensuring adequate hydration and carbohydrates before practices and games can not only mean the difference between winning and losing, but also the difference between strength and weakness. By fueling up properly athletes can diminish their chances of injury due to fatigue. 

Stretching
Common injuries among lacrosse athletes include knee (ACL) and ankle injuries. Stretching regularly and even incorporating exercises like yoga into practice routines can mean the difference between an injury and a strong, prepared body. It is important to stretch before and after engaging in lacrosse-related activity. 

Strength Training

Lower body strength exercises are extremely beneficial to lacrosse athletes because as mentioned above knee injuries and ankle injuries can occur quite frequently. Having a training routine will prove beneficial during game time and in regards to injury risk.

 

Be Prepared

First Aid and CPR Training

Being trained and certified in First Aid and CPR as a coach, athlete or parent is extremely beneficial as it could mean the difference between a treating an injury on the spot rather than visiting the hospital. In addition to first aid, heart attacks can occur at any age and any time, thus being prepared for larger incidences such as cardiac arrest could mean the difference between life and death.
